23rd June – National Hydration Day
Did you know that the human body is made up of around 60% water? It has some very important jobs to do such as transporting nutrients and oxygen to cells, improving metabolism, regulating the body temperature and detoxifying the body. All too often we don’t drink enough water, so grab your water bottle and have a read to see why we should up our H20……
It aids weight loss – water has no hidden calories, in fact no calories at all! It’s one of the best liquids to drink if you are trying to lose weight. The more water we drink, the less hungry you should feel so having a drink of water instead of your usual snack may just help to shift some pounds.
It helps to increase your energy levels – the body uses water to help flush out toxins and waster products. If you are dehydrated your body will need to work harder to perform its vital tasks, in turn making your feel more tired.
Natural medicine for headaches – do you often get headaches through the day that just don’t seem to go away? Next time your head starts to pound, get yourself a glass of water and sip this gradually. Although not the only cause for headaches, one of the most common reason is due to dehydration.
It helps to avoid cramps and injury – good hydration levels will help to lubricate the joints and muscles meaning you’ll be at lower risk of experiencing injuries.
It can improve concentration – drinking plenty of water will make sure the brain gets all the oxygen it needs and in turn will keep you functioning more efficiently for longer.
