How to Look After Your Nails Before and After Gel Polish.
Here’s some top tips to help keep your nails healthy & shiny whilst using Gel polish.
After using Gel Polish for a fair few years now, I can honestly say my nails are still in great condition but I know that this isn’t the same story for everyone. I do take pride in my nails, especially with my job as I know people will often look at my hands. The great thing about Gels is that the polish is long lasting and chip resistant (providing you look after them).
When applying hand cream, I always massage down each of my fingers, including the nail plate, adding hydration not only to my hands but also to my nails. I keep my nails trimmed with regular filing which helps to strengthen my nails.
How many people cut their cuticles? Stop!
The cuticle has a very important purpose to serve: It seals the area at the base of the nail. So, when you cut or remove the cuticle it breaks that seal of protection, leaving you vulnerable to bacteria and the possibility of infection. The better you are at leaving your cuticles alone, the more your nails will thank you. But if you feel the need to maintain them, I would recommend on gently pushing back the cuticle with an orange wooden stick after getting out of the shower as your cuticles are soft and you won’t damage them. After, massage them with a cuticle cream or thick, creamy lotion – don’t overdo it though, this only needs to be done once a week.
Protect Your Nails
I always use a base coat before applying any cover on my nails, whether it’s a gel nail or a normal nail varnish. This not only protects the nail from stains, but using a basecoat from Jessica Nails will help nourish, strengthen and repair.
I have found my favourite!!! (If you’re someone who wears gel polish a lot or even acrylic’s then this will be perfect for you) – Jessica Restoration.
Key ingredients: Coneflower Extract, Complex Strengtheners, Echinacea. Combined, they help to rebuild the nail from foundation to nail surface, restoring to a healthy condition. As soon as my gels are removed, I apply Restoration base coat every day and I always give my nails a rest before re applying a new colour. The best thing about Jessica is that they have formulated a base coat for many different nail types, – there’s one out there that’s perfect for you. Jessica basecoats offer a treatment for your nail to make them look beautiful and natural.
Gel Nail Removal
Once chipped, it’s easy to pick away at the edges and strip the gel off one nail at a time. Please don’t. Ask your beautician how to remove your gel nails safely. Jessica have created a removal kit for their GELeration range. As with all nail removal kits, it takes a little time but it’s worth removing your gels properly.
